You Can't Learn From Outlier EventsRead on…
Posted on 2023-06-23You're learning to play darts. You don't care about the actual rules, but just want to consistently hit the bullseye. You do a couple of throws, all somewhere around "okay". Finally, you hit the bullseye! You try to remember exactly what it was that enabled you to hit it… You had your right foot in front! You try again, right foot out front. You hit the edge of the board. Left foot, same result.

AI-Assisted LearningRead on…
Posted on 2023-06-16TL;DR: I used chatGPT in some form of Socratic dialogue to aid in understanding a text I was reading. Transcript.

Yes, AI is over-hyped and not actually (yet) capable of what many people claim it can do—or what people are already using it for. The best advice I've heard goes "Treat it like a younger version of yourself or an assistant. Let it do busy-work which you could also do yourself and don't trust it blindly." -
Lasers & Feelings Game WrapRead on…
Posted on 2022-11-20This week I finished a 3-shot of the excellent one-page RPG Lasers & Feelings by John Harper. L&F is not exactly meant to tell a story that's longer than a one-shot, but I wanted to challenge myself and try something different.

That Username Is TakenRead on…
Posted on 2022-09-26The longer a website exists the less usernames are still available on it. Also, the internet population is growing and everyone's taking up some usernames here and there. Of course, having no usernames left is not a real threat, but not having the one you had on that other site available is quite possible.

But not by actually giving you a starting point with DnD. Actually, I want to tell you about all the other Pen and Paper (P&P) games that are out there that might be a better fit for you!

Learning in Life, as Seen in «Boss Level» (2021)Read on…
Posted on 2022-08-08Boss Level, by Joe Carnahan, is not a good movie by a long shot. It's got bad CGI and the protagonist's–Roy's–narration runs completely counter to Show, Don't Tell. But it beautifully lays out the different ways we can learn and grow in life.

An diesem Film ist nichts «Wunderschön» (2022)Read on…

"Immoral Behaviour Is Good, Actually," Says Professional EthicistRead on…
Posted on 2022-02-05This post is a response to this article posted on my old University's blog. All my philosophical education comes from the TV show The Good Place, so take it with a grain of salt.
The article is an attempt by the author to cope with her – what she perceives to be – immoral decision of getting a dog. She is mainly worried about the negative impact on the environment the dog will have. But she manages to rationalize throwing your hands up and saying "It's too hard" into not giving a fuck is morally good in the long run.

Meeting Up At Your PasswordRead on…
Posted on 2022-01-25what3word utilizes the mathematical entropy of stringing three random words together (the way you should select the password for your password manager) to divide the world up into 3x3 meter squares with easy to remember names.
I think it's great for meeting out in public, like a city center or a festival. It's more accurate than addresses, but easier to remember and share than longitude and latitude.
